About this event

10.30am-1pm: “A Garland of Jewels” by Chogyal Phakpa – Part 6. This celebrated text by Chogyal Phakpa was composed as a manual of instructions for the 13th century Mongol Prince Gibek Timur. In 204 verses it covers the entire Buddhist path, from the level of a beginner to that of full enlightenment. The first part of the teaching provides guidance for a good life; the second part outlines the path for liberation and the final major section describes the distinctive features of the Mahayana path. The text is beautifully written which makes it especially accessible. This is the sixth teaching session of the text given by Lama Jampa, though it is not essential to have attended the earlier sessions to attend.

2.30-4.30pm: Initiation of Green Tara: Liberating from All Fears. Lama Jampa has decided to give the initiation of Green Tara, "Liberating from All Fears" instead of the initiation of Parnashabari, as he feels that this will be more appropriate at this time.

Tara is one of the most widely practised meditations in Tibetan Buddhism. The goddess herself is the embodiment of the liberating activity of all the buddhas. This special form of the female Buddha-deity Tara, green in colour, is particularly efficacious in dispelling fears.

In order to attend the initiation one must have made a formal commitment to the Buddhist path through the act of taking refuge. If you would like to take refuge please contact the Sakya Buddhist Centre in Bristol in advance of the event. Email: bristol@dechen.org
